North Midlands sit top of the Section 2 table with one game to play after another excellent performance against Shropshire. Michael Warrington was called up from the subs bench to go on first at home and delivered a man of the match performance. At the half way point the match was evenly balanced with a win to five at home for Darren Plenderleith and Darren Tring, together with wins by Steve Pratt, Stuart Perry and Noel Bates, while away Russell Prosser registered the only win.
In the home second half Anton Davis got off to a flyer but was pegged back a little as the match went on. Nerves were steadied after Tyler Dewis lost to 20 but this was after staging a remarkable comeback after being well down.
Meanwhile it was all kicking off at the away leg at the Pontesbury Nags Head green. After Ben Percival and Andy Parker battled to narrow losses, Peter Varney got another win on the board in a nail biter. Although we lost the away match, good wins by Paul Lamb and Shane Day in the final two matches regained the initiative and meant we only lost the second half by five shots.
By the time Mark Burdett had finished securing a comfortable personal win at Coundon, we could celebrate another victory with two games still to complete (both wins by Richard Burdett Mnr and Stuart Nash), with a final winning margin of 39 shots.
In the other Section 2 game, Merseyside beat Cheshire by 27 shots which, barring a series of unlikely results, means the winner of the our game against Merseyside on the 1st July will determine who proceeds to the semi-finals. It promises to be a very tasty match indeed.
But for now, it is time to celebrate another professional team performance by the current Champions.
